– Early June to early July –
Over the years, the Auvers-sur-Oise Festival has become one of the must-see events on the European classical music calendar. With its poetic charm, throughout the years it has retained the pioneering spirit with which it was associated from the outset.
Featuring locations brimming with history, the town – whose church was so beautifully immortalised by Van Gogh – has been a big music destination since 1981. The Auvers-sur-Oise Festival is characterised by the presence of stars, its eclecticism and its openness to the younger generation. Each successful event remains true to the original winning formula and who can forget the incredible concerts by Cziffra, Richter, Christa Ludwig, Evgeny Kissin, Cecilia Bartoli, or Renée Fleming.
Others will retain fond memories of the spectacular performances by the Trio Wanderer, Claire-Marie Le Guay, Anastasia Kobeikina or Luka Okros to mention but a few of the emerging talents. Its audience is very international and almost 15,000 artists and 320,000 festival-goers have flocked here since the event was launched. Not forgetting the construction of a 30-stop pipe organ and the 250,000 records produced by its mission DiscAuverS label, enabling many musicians to make their mark on the European musical landscape. Variety, vibrancy, curiosity and liberty are the watchwords of the high-quality performance programme to be experienced at each event.
Auvers can be baroque, classical, romantic, lyrical or contemporary… So many different genres to be experienced in settings steeped in history. And as Eve Ruggieri so aptly wrote: « You can’t describe Auvers, you have to experience it! »
